Proked truck!

Got shoes?

Pro-bono for a great group helping kids in Africa get equipped for school.

Typeset in Didot, of course.

Zeus Roc?

But, I thought you spelt it with a ‘K’ at the end?

Feed me!

Sure sign that it’s Spring – some hungry mouths to feed in a nest at the parent’s house.

Blerp

Recent jobs

Correct, I actually do work. Lots, really.

Christmas is in the air …

Yes, definitely that time of year.

Zeus dropped a new mixtape – ‘SexmusicMistletoeDunkee’. Which means he played songs he likes. Woop.

Zeus really knows when to say yes to great fonts. Didot. Great font. Great job Zeus, really really job. Didot, great job too. Great job all round.

Yay, Christmas season, let’s all eat these tasty morsels, five a day. Just kidding. Kinda. But really … kidding.

Essentials

Spacious October

Oh October!

Every year at this time, I wonder in amazement at the amount of paper that must be wasted by having three expanded geometric forms in the month’s name. ‘O’, ‘C’ and ‘O’ just soak up the page space. Shown in Didot, Futura and Garamond (all regular, no spacing modified), it’s a wonder the world hasn’t sort this out and penalised the month one character.

I suggest Otober …

Tad to the right, please!

“Hey guys, when you’re done with the sound crate … you mind moving the ‘P’ a tad to the right? Cheers.”

And here is a fun game to learn the principles of kerning. Hurray, I am already winning.

Working, working

Nice logo bro …

3conscious

Have had the privilege to work with Nic Barlcay again on his latest film.

Premieres soon, so you can wait to see the wonderful DVD cover.

For now, enjoy the poster …

Garamond, sweet sweet Garamond.

The beast that is ‘Chopes’

Just saw this on Swellnet:

Suddenly the line-up seemed to thin. My heart was pounding. I overheard Julian Wilson asking what to do when caught inside. “Take your leash off and swim for your life,” said Dan Ross. I felt a bit faint. I’d already had one of the best barrels of my life and a sickening wipeout that rattled me like a truncheon blow to the back of the head.

Freak of nature.

Josh Kerr wrote this:

watching the scaffoldings getting taken down at chopes where they film from.. i guess that means they r scared it will get washed away!

Saturday could be the day, 10ft Chopes for the manly among us. I will be watching it online, sipping coffee.

Morning

I made …

… desk. (This was it’s fourth and definitely final reassembly … I pretty much just put screws through the whole thing. Skills.)

… a breakfast wrap.

… and a mistake trying to do a one-liner ‘P’.

Thank God for PBS … and Gotham

Mr Roy Ayers, ladies and gents

And interesting …

Story

Story!

So, I went to get something from my car. Got to the front door, and only had my car keys. No worries: back to my room, swapped car keys for house keys. Opened front door. Didn’t have car keys, so back to room, swapped house keys for car keys. Opened car, retrieved ‘stuff’ or whatever. Back to house, couldn’t lock door due to only having car keys. Back to room, back to door. Mission accomplished.

How good are pockets, ey?

Looking North

Designed this for a sweet charity gig that Mosaic ran. Good night, great crew.

For those who were there, this video might strike a chord.

Meggs!

I always sign up to cool sites’ newsletters.

And then, never read read them. Obviously.

But I read the backwoods newsletter last week by chance, and damn, Meggs is killing it. I’ve always been a fan, but this is straight up neck-level.

I just got the Everfresh Crew book too, which is a really fun read, and well designed, so peep that if you are so inclined.

For now, eye feast!

All images belong to Meggs etc blah.

Akash

Yes it’s me, Mr D double E …

Akash is handsome young man who I sponsor. He lives in India, and doesn’t have a lot of money, so I help him out each month.

Did this for him a few years ago.

Larikans!

Some canvas …

… from last year.

“Don worry aboud it”…

“Hey boss, you know how you hired an art director AND a designer AND a photographer to do our new advert?

Yeah, well … don worry aboud it. I got this one wrapped.”

Trick!

Pretty

Go on, fill the counters in.

And the spiky ‘v’s are pretty hot, too.

Type

Type … rocks.

The underbelly in NYC

Cool idea, have a read.

Pretty print

A few arrows from last year’s print quiver …

The art of ink on paper

Long time coming …

Drew this is up last year, maybe June?

Anyway, felt the need to rock it out …

Cut backs are for chumps.

Rest in peace John Pitson

AGDA ran a lovely article on John Pitson. He loved typography. Good man.

Image from AGDA website.

It is not unreasonable to suggest that the appointment of John Pitson as Typographer to the new AGPS, and the subsequent growth of the AGPS design section, prompted the development of the Graphic Design industry in Canberra. Departments soon became aware of the benefits of well-designed publications and freelance studios rapidly developed to supplement the work of AGPS and to service the growing sophistication of clients.

And this …

A reinterpretation of Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side’, for a project last year.

Oh, Hipgnosis, how sorry we are for killing your work. But if it wasn’t so amazing …

Creative Communication

Amongst deep, deep thoughts on ‘how images communicate’ and the subconscious space we give them, found an old piece from last year. Was a spec advert for sunglasses.

Guns

Look mum, I’m drawing!

Little peek at some illustration work I’m doing at the moment.

Good, clean, Wednesday fun.

Bodoni, Bodoni, Bodoni, you old friend.

This may interest no-one. But … youworkforthem.com just released Bodoni Egyptian Pro. It’s a font, so stop reading if that’s too much information.

Anyway, I’m peaking. PEAKING!

Bodoni is one my favourite typefaces. It just rocks, no question. But this version puts a whole new spin on it – it’s designed as a monoline (from what I have seen, anyway). And it comes in 8 weights of Roman. 8.

It looks hot as display type.

Copy? Sorted, brother man.

I can’t really afford to buy the whole family, but you never know, perhaps a kind client will not question the invoice that includes a weight or two?

Go and drool.

It’s the deal!

Christmas present time. For 3 days only, $60 for two 5×7 prints, or $100 for two 8×12 prints. These little guys are perfect for presents, so get your orders in by 12:00 Friday and we’ll get them to you with plenty of time for classy wrapping.

Email nathan@theendstop.com.

The cutting room …

Speaking of ‘Creative Spaces’, I’ve spent many hours the last week filling orders and cutting and matting photos. A very cathartic and automatic process, plenty of fun. And have had the chance to thoroughly enjoy the new Kings of Leon album … over and over and over and over.

Only one of these prints left!

‘Creative Spaces’

Yo, I have this thing about ‘space’. Anywhere I work, it needs to be a cool space.

It’s taken a year, but I’m finally enjoying the garage again as a creative space. I’m working on a four-canvas commission for a dance school, and it’s taking longer than I thought, but I’m finally in the space. And … it feels damn good.

Here are a few photos of the process from the last week or so …

Perhaps summer is bringing with it some new inspiration?

Logo a go-go

This week’s work is proudly brought to you by Artline 70,  Artline .3mm, Artline .1mm, Artline 200, some French curves, a pencil and The Temper Trap.

And here’s a job that came back last week, a graduation shirt for Kwinana Christian School. One colour on navy shirts.

To Laos, with love

Just finished this poster for CRWRC, a group that works in various villages in Laos. They have a pretty intense job but seem to be making a huge difference, big ups. It’s printing in Laos, for distribution in Canada.
